A STAY AT THE WHISPERING PINES

by Paul Bishop — September 2, 2006

(For A & A)

A long winding road
That curls ’round gentle hills
Of St. Remy, New York
In the gorgeous Catskills

The Whispering Pines stand tall and fine
A soft sussuration speaking to their kind
The gentle breeze
The rocks, the trees
And birds to sleep with ease

Over the house the trees stand and guard
Silent sentinels of the nature-filled yard
While music flows
Its skirling goes
Long after day’s close

Fire-maned goddess in forest-green gown
And hippophile sage with pony-tail brown
With voice, whistle, guitar
Harp, bodhran, mandolin
Welcome you warmly when you come in

Hospitality of the most generous kind
Music for the soul, pease for the mind
Rest for the weary
From a world well-roamed
Another place that I can call “Home:

The Piper In The Hills

THE PIPER IN THE HILLS

by Paul Bishop — September 21, 2004

If I had but a day in Erin
I’d spend my time in the hills
Listening for the piper
Between the fen and rills

High on a rocky outcrop he stands
A lone, solitary Celt
A whistle held gently but played with abandon
That I’ve not long heard or felt

The lament of his heart
The skirl of his tune
The fading of notes
And a day gone too soon

The Voice Of Music

THE VOICE OF MUSIC

by Paul Bishop – March 24, 1998

Though I may not play perfection
When my fingers press these valves
I know the music for my soul will be
A sonorous, healing salve
For in the music when I play
I hear all the Composer wants to say

God speaks through the music
To my quiet heart that beats
To the rhythm of emotion, finding
Where the Lord my soul will meet
And within the inspired harmonies
My Saviour comes and speaks to me

Perfection In His Eyes

PERFECTION IN HIS EYES

by Paul Bishop — May 20, 1996

I’ve practised hard
I’ve practised long
My every note is perfect
When I play this song
But this is not
Where importance lies
I have to play my best
To see approval in Daddy’s eyes

And there he sits
In that front row (more…)

Composers

COMPOSERS

by Paul Bishop — November 3, 1991

With a blank page of manuscript
Into the ink, the quill is dipped
And from heart and mind ideas come
Words and music weaved to one
To take a place upon the sheet
Where melody and lyrics meet (more…)

Dexterity

DEXTERITY

by Paul Bishop — January 10, 1990

The young boy looked into his father’s eyes with pride
His first hymn tune he had tried
Though quite simple, the song did show
The potential to which the boy could grow
His father taught him all he knew
And in his knowledge, the young boy grew (more…)
